As this school year comes to a close, I want to sincerely thank you for the opportunity to serve the Dexter community. Over the years, I have grown both as a leader and as an educator. Education has been my passion since a young age, and it continues to bring me immense joy.
One of the greatest rewards of this journey is seeing former students out in the community and hearing about the incredible things they are doing. Many have gone on to graduate from college or trade school, start families, and raise children of their own. It warms my heart to know they still keep in touch and share their accomplishments with me. It’s in these moments that I know I’ve made a difference.
As we all move forward to new opportunities, I want to express my deep gratitude for the trust you’ve placed in me to serve this community. It has truly been an honor and a pleasure.
This marks the completion of my 22nd year in public education—and 24 years total, including two years in private schools. It feels like just yesterday that I began this incredibly rewarding journey. Though I am three years away from retirement, I plan to continue beyond that because this work continues to inspire me every day.
To everyone—students, families, and colleagues—I wish you the very best and continued success. This will be my final post for the school year. Please remember to check the school website regularly for updates and upcoming events. All end-of-year activities for the elementary school are listed under the "Events" tab.

A medida que este año escolar llega a su fin, quiero agradecerles sinceramente por la oportunidad de servir a la comunidad de Dexter. A lo largo de los años, he crecido tanto como líder como educadora. La educación ha sido mi pasión desde muy joven, y continúa brindándome una enorme satisfacción.
Una de las mayores recompensas de este camino ha sido encontrarme con exalumnos en la comunidad y escuchar sobre las cosas increíbles que están logrando. Siento como si hubiera comenzado esta increíble y gratificante trayectoria apenas ayer. Aunque aún me faltan tres años para jubilarme, planeo continuar más allá de ese momento, porque este trabajo sigue inspirándome día a día.

This school year has been wonderful! This week, we also celebrate and show our appreciation for our amazing teachers, nurses, and all staff. Thank you for everything you do each day for our children—you are truly awesome!
Students are taking their end-of-year interim assessments for iMSSA and Istation this week and next. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest. We appreciate all K-5 students attending during this important time for growth assessments. The data collected helps guide our instruction.

NM Pre-K Round-Up
Kindergarten Round-Up
Our elementary students performed exceptionally well and represented Dexter with pride at the Battle of the Books. We had two students on teams that placed, including one of our very own 5th-grade students. Congratulations to these dedicated students! They committed to reading over 15 books throughout the school year to prepare for the competition. During the event, students were asked comprehension questions about the books and had to respond with the book title and author. Great job!
As a reminder for students with older siblings, middle and high school student-athletes have their physicals this Friday, May 2, 2025. Thank you for your support with testing last week. Your efforts in ensuring students were present and prepared for school are much appreciated. I am confident we will see growth, and they have done well. Please take a look at the calendar for upcoming events. We have 18 days of school left, and it will go by quickly. Have a great week!
Nuestros estudiantes de primaria se desempeñaron excepcionalmente bien y representaron a Dexter con orgullo en la Batalla de los Libros. This is a reminder that it is picture day! Staff will be taking a group picture at 8 AM. Please note that there will not be anyone available at the front office during this time. Students should go to the cafeteria at 8 AM to wait while the staff takes their group picture. Thank you for your understanding.

Please ensure that students complete their work packets during remote learning today and return them to school on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Students in grades 3 to 5 will begin testing from Tuesday, April 22, 2025, to Tuesday, April 29, 2025. It is crucial that they get plenty of rest, and we will provide a nutritious breakfast each day. Attendance is mandatory for all students unless they are sick and have a doctor's note. Students who attend all days of testing will receive an incentive. It is best for students to take tests with their peers they have been with all school year, rather than during make-up testing. Testing is an important opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned and the hard work they have put in all year. Let's support them in this important endeavor. If you have any questions, please call the front office. Picture Day is on Thursday, April 24, 2025, featuring spring photos and class pictures for the school year. Students participating in the Battle of the Books will leave on Friday for a field trip to honor their hard work, with the competition taking place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Goddard High School. Can you believe it is the middle of April? We have 29 days of school remaining, and it is going by so fast! Please check the updated events on our website for activities happening during the rest of the year. We had a fantastic Scholastic Book Fair, and we thank you for contributing. We hope you enjoy the books! Students in grades 3-5 are actively preparing for state testing, which is scheduled from April 22 to April 29. Please ensure your students are in attendance each day. Remember, we have a remote learning day on April 21. Elementary students will be taking home learning packets on April 17, and staff will be available from 8 AM to 11 AM April 21. Also, don’t forget that picture day is April 24. Have a great week!

NM Pre-K and Kindergarten Round-Up for School Year 2025-26
Join us on Friday, May 9, from 9 AM until 2 PM at the elementary school for the NM Pre-K and Kindergarten Round-Up.
NM Pre-K Students: Must be 4 years of age by September 1, 2025.
Kindergarten Students: Must be 5 years of age by September 1, 2025.
Note: NM Pre-K spots are limited to 15. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. All others will be placed on a waiting list.

Curriculum Adoption Announcement
It's time for the curriculum adoption process. This year focuses on science adoption. A number of teachers attended a presentation regarding the science curriculum, and we have narrowed down our options to a select few. We invite students, staff, parents, families, and the community to visit the elementary school to review the curriculum and cast your vote. The curriculum materials are displayed in the hallway next to the front office of the elementary school. Please come by between now and Friday, April 11, 2025, to share your feedback. We aim to make a decision in late April and present it to the school board at the monthly meeting in May. Thank you for your support.
