In 1938 the L.Q. Carmans, came from Louisville, Kentucky to work at the U.S. Fish Hatchery and a dedicated shoe cobbler, Clifton Haley came from Chickasha, Oklahoma. Acting as Deacons these men and their families became so concerned about the Lord's work in Dexter that in August the First Baptist Church was re-organized with 11 charter members. Presently, the church is under the direction of Pastor Jack Ferguson, and continues to serve the community of Dexter through sponsorship of a monthly Cowboy Church event and Vacation Bible school for the children of Dexter.
