Mayor Reid remembers a lot of businesses that were in Dexter. Mayor Reid remembers two hotels that were located where the Fire Station is now located. The east Hotel was his Aunt Ruth's parents, the McMains. Mr. Henry had a large service station where Allsup's is located now, later he sold that to Marvis Frazier, the Arco bought it. The Allsup's Corporation bought it and tore it down and put the station that is currently located there. Where Coats Plumbing is located there used to be a mechanic's garage. Preacher Garrison had a blacksmith shop at the spot where Larry Benedict has this metal craft business. Preacher Garrison was also the mayor of Dexter. There used to be a staircase that went up to the second floor of the Cha Cha Cha cafe, Preacher Garrison preached up there. Mrs. Bailey's Grocery store was located where Dairy Jordan Service is at. Sam Boyce had a store by the Cha Cha Cha cafe, but later moved into the Cha Cha Cha cafe building. There used to be a little Grocery Store and gas station where Luz's Place is located. There was a small restaurant in town. Dexter's business industry has changed drastically over the years as Dexter continues to meet the needs of it citizens.
