Carl Carruthers had a business in Larry G. Marshall's Building. He was the first person in his family to become an insurance salesman, everyone else in his family are farmers. Mr. Marshall's heart was and is still in the farming business. As a young adult Mr. Marshall found a job with a custom cubing company and worked with them for the summer then during the winter he would watch lambs. He did this for two rotations but then his asthma go to bad and he had to stop. Buck Pirtle told Mr. Marshall that he needed to go talk to Mark Draper about getting a job with an insurance company. He told mark Draper that he was there in respect for him and Buck Pirtle and he also told Mark Draper that he did not want the job. As Mark Draper tried to figure out why Larry was even at the job interview Mr. Marshall explained that he did not want to sit behind a desk for the rest of his life. Then Mark Draper said, "Oh heck, your hired!" Larry G. Marshall finally found out that to be successful in the insurance business you don't just sit behind a desk the whole time. Larry G. Marshall has owned this business since 1974. Mr. Marshall's building has been standing since statehood. Mr. Marshall was by himself with one secretary for 10 years then in 1997 he added on to the business and now he has five employees. He has another branch, in Roswell, that has not been opened very long. One of Mr. Marshall's memories of Dexter was at the 50th Anniversary. There was a bike race and Mr. Marshall did not have a bike to use so he borrowed his female cousin's bike, the bike was three time too big for him. He wrecked at the first curb. Mr. Marshall believes in "helping make life a little easier".
